Brakes for Breast (B4B) is a fundraiser that occurs each year during October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is Addison Auto Repair and Body Shop’s third year participating in this wonderful cause. 

Brakes for Breasts was started in 2011 by two women in the auto repair industry who wanted something positive to come out of their own grief. Laura Frank and Leigh Anne Best had both been hurt by cancer in their families, and they came up with the idea to band together independent repair shops in the common mission of funding cancer research in a unique way. 

This year nationally, over 100 independent auto repair shops are coming together to support this incredible cause. 

There are many great causes to support, so why support B4B? Brakes for Breasts is different than other fundraisers in a few ways. First, all donations go directly to The Cleveland Clinic Breast Cancer Vaccine Research Fund. That’s right, B4B takes zero of the funds for their own administration of the program! 

Second, B4B specifically funds the research of Dr. Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic, who has demonstrated success with a vaccine preventing triple-negative breast cancer in animal studies, and now the FDA has approved trials in human participants! Triple-negative breast cancer is the most lethal form of the illness and this research has implications for other types of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and potentially other diseases.

You can still help to put the brakes on breast cancer, even if your car doesn’t need brake repair. Let’s build a future where we stop cancer before it begins!
