These seemingly unrelated questions come together in the month of October. To support
BRAKES FOR BREASTS, Addison Auto Repair and Body Shop (Addison) has teamed up with
two of our most generous vendors: WORLDPAC and Western Automotive Warehouse
Distributors (WAWD).
What does this mean for you as a customer of Addison?
During the month of October, any customer needing a brake service will receive FREE BRAKE
PADS thanks to our vendors WORLDPAC and WAWD. Customers will be responsible for any
other costs associated with the brake service including labor and other required parts. Addison
will then donate 10% of the total cost of the brake service to BRAKES FOR BREASTS.
We are the only BRAKES FOR BREASTS participant in Denver- though we hope this will
change and more auto repair shops will support this awesome cause.
What does this mean for cancer research?
The Founders of BRAKES FOR BREASTS created a relationship with the Cleveland Clinic
where 100% of monies donated to BRAKES FOR BREASTS go directly to the research! That’s
right- no portion of the donations are taken for administrative or other reasons.
The pioneering researcher, Dr. Vincent Tuohy, has worked on this vaccine for over a decade and
he has demonstrated immensely promising results. In fact, phase I clinical trials in humans are
planned to begin in 2020. The first cohort of patients to receive this vaccine will be those who
have recovered from treatment for triple-negative breast cancer, the most lethal form of breast
cancer and one with a high recurrence rate.
Almost everyone has or will be affected by cancer in some way. This vaccine shows promise not
only for breast cancer but also for treatments of other types of cancers and disease. The idea of a
cancer vaccine is no longer just a dream- it may be a reality before our children are grown!
