A customer wrote, “Does your shop know if hail blankets protect your car in a hail storm?” After all the hail we received in the Denver metro area last year this was a question that was worth researching.
I did some digging and found a number of advertisements and YouTube videos demonstrating different products but wasn’t able to find any actual reviews of people who had real life experience using a hail protective cover. Many products looked too large to store in your trunk long term waiting for a hail storm to arrive. Others looked too lightweight to do any good considering the high winds that accompany hail.
The spring and summer hail months are here, so as a reminder, to minimize the damage, when you’re able, stop, look for a sheltered area to wait; bank, gas station, unoccupied car port, or underpass. If you’re at work and you see the storm is heading a certain direction try and use the building as a shield while the storm passes.
Consider installing a weather app that will pinpoint your location and give emergency warnings. This may give you enough leeway to take cover and keep you out of the body shop or at least lessen the damage.
