The Denver metro area and front range was hit pretty hard this summer with hail. The hail was driven by strong winds causing even more damage than if it had fallen straight down.
Hail damage is difficult to see. In our general area, the type of hail damage we're seeing is being repaired mostly by a process known as Paintless Dent Repair (PDR).
With PDR, the repairs are located and removed under a special LED light. PDR does not require breaking the factory finish.
It may be more cost effective or necessary on heavily damaged panels to repair conventionally (straighten/paint) or replace if the damage is severe enough.
Will An Auto Hail Claim Increase my Insurance Premium?
Auto hail damage is covered under your comprehensive coverage so first you have to be carrying comprehensive coverage.
The question many people are asking is, "If I file a hail claim will it increase my premium?".
I asked that question to an insurance agent. She explained that a hail claim does not incur a direct surcharge like in an accident because it's an "act of nature". Therefore, you won't see a change in premium solely on a hail claim but any time a claim is filed, it will affect your customer rating index.
So the answer is yes and no.
So the answer is yes and no.
My take away after our conversation was if you haven't had any claims for 3-5 years a single hail claim will not increase your premiums.
